Lifecycle Design: Sustainable Product Development Through Digital Continuity

European regulations are increasingly focused on tracking and optimizing sustainability and circularity metrics related to products across their entire life cycle. For instance, starting in 2027, a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) will be required for industrial batteries. A mandatory repairability index has been introduced for smartphones and tablets. To remain competitive in the long term, companies must incorporate efficient decision support systems for these lifecycle-oriented metrics into their product development processes. Automated assessment approaches and digital traceability of fundamental parameters are key prerequisites for this. This is illustrated in the field of lifecycle design. The focus is on incorporating sustainability and circularity requirements early in the product development process.
