Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

Research for practice is the central task of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Founded in 1949, the research organization currently has 74 institutes and research facilities that conduct application-oriented research for the benefit of industry and society. Approximately 28,000 employees work on an annual research volume of 2.8 billion euros. As the oldest and only production technology Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin, our research and development work contributes to the competitiveness of the region, Germany and Europe. We work closely with other institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

The Fraunhofer Group for Production is a cooperation of Fraunhofer Institutes with a similar research focus. By combining our expertise and experience, we are able to offer our industrial, commercial and retail customers comprehensive, integrated solutions from a single source.

We cooperate with our partner institutes in various Fraunhofer alliances to offer you comprehensive know-how for application-oriented solutions that go beyond our own research field:

Strategic partners

Institute for Machine Tools and Factory Management IWF of the Technical University of Berlin

Founded in 1904, the IWF is one of the oldest and most successful institutions for teaching and research in production technology in Germany. The Fraunhofer IPK and the IWF have been linked by a cooperation agreement since 1979. Both institutes are united in the Production Technology Center (PTZ). All department heads at the Fraunhofer IPK are also professors at the IWF. This close personnel integration ensures the rapid transfer of results from basic to application-oriented research.

Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing BAM

The Fraunhofer IPK and BAM are strategic partners in the field of joining and coating technologies. The joint use of research equipment and the dovetailing of personnel increase the scientific efficiency and enable a faster technology transfer. The close cooperation with BAM also strengthens our competence in materials testing.

International partnerships
