Scientific integrity describes the responsibility of Fraunhofer scientists to ensure the quality and integrity of their scientific work. As renowned members of the German research community, the institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft are committed to complying with the guidelines for ensuring good research practice as formulated by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The principles of good scientific work include correctly specifying sources, taking a methodical and quality-assured approach to project work, maintaining a critical distance from one's own research results, and ensuring these results are traceable. Fraunhofer's commitment to good scientific practice is detailed on the website of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
Each Fraunhofer Institute appoints two ombudspersons who work to ensure that good scientific practices are established in all areas of the institute. The two ombudspersons essentially have the following tasks:
- Promote scientific integrity at the institute.
- Consulting and mediation in cases of conflict.
- Participate in investigating suspected cases.
Our ombudspersons are individuals with scientific experience who enjoy broad trust within the institute. They are your points of contact for all matters related to scientific integrity at Fraunhofer IPK.
