Activities of the Fraunhofer IPK

Fraunhofer IPK is actively involved in the Circular Economy use case. In this use case, approaches for decision support at the end of the life cycle (R-strategy assistance), the implementation of a product passport with a focus on batteries and other approaches to support a circular product ecosystem are being developed.

This is based on Digital Twins of products and components. The Fraunhofer IPK is involved in the design of such Digital Twins with the objective of implementing the circular economy with principles such as reuse, recovery, remanufacturing or recycling. The necessary architectures, data models and services are being developed.

Furthermore, Fraunhofer IPK researchers support the provision of relevant information for the implementation of the circular economy as well as the development of the R-Strategy Assistant, which provides decision support for the economically and ecologically best R-strategy.
