We are exploring and shaping future engineering by networking and supporting advanced systems engineering (ASE) activities in science and industry.

German companies, traditionally strong in engineering, are facing major challenges in the development of autonomous, interactive and dynamically networked products in the future. To master these, progressive solutions in engineering must be found. For this reason, the BMBF funding measure "Advanced Systems Engineering" is concerned with the holistic interaction of people, organization and technology.

By using new technologies and methods and further developing skills such as creativity and agility, companies can make their engineering fit for the future.

What is the role of Fraunhofer IPK in AdWiSE?

In the AdWiSE project, Fraunhofer IPK primarily provides services that contribute to the refinement and transfer of the results. These include the development of an ASE transfer concept, the initiation of ASE competence development, knowledge and technology transfer, and the stabilization of technology transfer. Together with the other research partners, Fraunhofer IPK organizes and conducts expert and dialog rounds that deal with the identification of accompanying cross-cutting issues and promote networking and dialog.

In addition, Fraunhofer IPK is heading the Sustainability Working Group, which focuses on the challenges involved in developing ecologically more sustainable advanced systems. The approach can be summarized in three stages:

  1. Awareness: Sustainability models and strategies as well as laws, regulations and certifications
  2. Use Case: Summarizing all the necessary information of a life cycle assessment or LCA as well as design levers to reduce the LCA impact of Advanced Systems
  3. Collaborative projects: Identifying potentials and challenges

Funding notice

The project AdWiSE is funded by the BMBF in the program "Innovations for Production, Service and Work of Tomorrow", funding measure "Mastering the Complexity of Sociotechnical Systems - A Contribution to Advanced Systems Engineering for the Value Creation of Tomorrow (PDA_ASE)" and supervised by PTKA.
