MBSE maturity level analysis

Many companies have become aware of the potential of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), such as increased quality and shorter development times, and have begun to look at this approach for themselves and evaluate the potential of implementing it in their own organizations. As MBSE is defined by the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) as the formalized application of modeling to support various system activities, such as system requirements, design, analysis, verification, and validation from the concept phase to late lifecycle phases, this adoption and implementation differs among companies. In a joint project between Siemens PLM Software and Fraunhofer IPK, a maturity model was developed that assesses a company's ability to successfully operate MBSE.

In this process, all activities of the V-Modell are classified into the areas of requirements, architecture, behavior, implementation and simulation models as well as prototypes and, based on this, the process maturity as well as the maturity of the model-based work of the company is evaluated from level 1 (initial) to 5 (optimized). Based on this evaluation, further recommendations for action can be determined in order to reach a certain target level.

Fraunhofer IPK offers to carry out the maturity assessment of your company and recommendations for action derived from it. Thanks to Fraunhofer IPK's application-oriented research, both current research aspects and industry best practices can be taken into account and integrated into the recommendations for action.

If you have not yet started with the introduction of MBSE at your company, we also offer you support in the potential assessment and introduction for your specific use cases.
