Medical Technology

The Medical Technology division develops innovative technologies for interventional therapy, especially for image-guided and minimal-invasive surgery. Together with the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery / Clinical Navigation of the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin it runs the Berliner Zentrum für Mechatronische Medizintechnik (BZMM). In this integrated research and interventional center interdisciplinary teams develop novel systems for image-guided and minimal-invasive surgery in compliance with the Medical Devices Act (MPG) and perform first clinical tests. The aim is to collaborate with industry and clinical users to develop prototypes that make surgical procedures safer and more efficient.

Our research work is application-oriented and targets the needs and requirements of surgical professions and industry. In our research projects we ensure that the high technical expertise of our team members is supplemented by practicing surgeons, while early integration of industrial partners addresses the market acceptance. In this way we develop imaging systems and instruments for image-guided and minimal-invasive surgery with assured market potential that our industrial partners can prepare for serial production and market launch.
